The Tank Americaine is quite possibly the least understood model in Cartier's lineup.
Introduced in 1989 under Richemeont group ownership, it is in many ways a modern update to the classic Cintrée model. With an elongated case featuring a gently curved case back, the Americaine line was designed from the start to be a larger watch to suit American tastes. Initially launched exclusively with quartz movements, the line has expanded in the past decades to include a variety of mechanical variants as well as sizes, case materials, and complications that put it all over the map in terms of value.
This particular Americaine, a 'Large' sized Reference 2505, features a 27mm 18k rose gold case with a curved sapphire crystal, a non-luminous silver guilloche dial with printed ‘Roman’ indices, blued-steel ‘sword’ handset, a date window at 6 o’clock, a hidden signature within the 7 o’clock hour marker and Cartier's ubiquitous sapphire cabochon winding crown.
It’s comes paired to a Cartier signed brown alligator leather strap with a signed 18k rose gold ardillon pin buckle, a self-winding movement, its inner and outer box set, spare strap, and service paperwork from Cartier dated 2023.
If you’re looking for an elegant watch that represents impeccable taste and is sure to draw many compliments, this Cartier Tank Americaine must be at the top of your short-list.
